The old muffler's life just couldn't be stretched out any longer. The OEM from Simplicity was about $62.00 plus S&H special order. I found this one at Tractor Supply Company for $7.49, the pipe for $1.80, and the jam nut for $0.52. And it works fine with the factory heat sheild. It's quiet enough, and I'm not sure if that Nelson "Can" muffler was the right one for it anyway.

i see the nelsons on ebay to. i did see the heat cover on there as well but for got about it and never got a bid in..
sure would like to get a heat cover, if i sill worked in the sheet metal shop i would make a few. maybe rob could build some. |

I'll keep that in mind. I'm going to put this muffler on my 3212H when I put it back together this spring, and find an original for the Big 10. |

Uhmmm.... It is reasonably quiet compared to the old one, which was really nothing more than a straight pipe anymore.
The shield is the OEM winter carb shield to to keep the carb warm |

I believe the shield is to keep heat from the exhaust around the carb to prevent ice over, yes? You would remove for warm weather use. |

Larry I would be interested in how quiet that muffler is. I have one that looks just like it but is very noisy. Being new to these tractors I don't what a quiet one is. Also what is the shield around the muffler for? Alan |

Larry, I have bought used Nelson mufflers from Sandy Lake Impl. Brenda sometimes has them in stock for around $20. The last two I got were like new. Dave. |

When I put my 3212H together this spring I think I'm going to use this muffler there and get the correct one for the Big 10. The 3212H is already going to be pretty far from original so the muffler wont matter. |
