The 42 inch deck goes places the 48 wouldn't and cuts down on my weed eating, so I doubt I lose any time. The lawn is gorgeous, not just mowed with the Allis

Have you checked the deck model number? It sounds like there either ordering the right part and you don't have that model deck, or there just idiots. I could be right on both counts, but it just seems the best bet.

I refuse to buy tractors that haven't been taken care of. no need to. One guy wanted 600 for a tractor, and when I got there and saw it, it even had rust through on the frame. I told him I thought I would pass, he asked what I would offer and before I could think, I said, I wouldn't want it on my trailer if you gave it to me. He didn't like that, sorry

Instructions said to ALWAYS run at full throttle and while it mowed "okay" it sure worked hard to cut average height grass. I doubt it would have lasted 5 seasons before falling apart. I sold it the same season and bought a 1974 Massey MF-14 with a 48 inch deck. It was one of my better decisions. The Craftsman isn't worth what the Massey is now after 2 years, that says a lot. I don't mow with the Massey any longer, it's a dedicated small tractor, so the mowing duties have fallen to the 1975 Allis 716H and NOTHING mows like a Simplicity built machine, not then, not now.

Okay what is the rod that goes into the rear lift called. I've seen guys put some kind of steel? rod in the rear lift to extend it further up and out. It appears to have a hole drilled through it. I've tried to find something that will fit, but haven't found anything so far. It seems to be very similar to the one on my Cub Cadet 1650 lift
